Trust Your Gut: The Journey Begins

Trust Your Gut: The Journey Begins

August 2, 2012
My journey to understanding Candida opened a wide door of ventures, and opinions.  Let alone stretched my knowledge of alternative treatments and nutritional terms I am still trying to learn.  For me it boiled down to a trust issue. I had to trust.
When you have trusted your M.D., your O.B.G.Y.N. and a couple of specialist, to no avail, and you have cried out putting your health in the Lord’s hands, then it is time to trust He will heal you.

After I was diagnosed with Candida (see my post Trust Your Gut: Diagnosed with Candida) I was overwhelmed with all of the information out there proving it did and did not exist.  Because I truly believed through that frustration, and still do, that God lead me to Dr. Christy Jenkins, then I had/have to trust that what she was telling me was true, and the method of which she was going/is going to treat me was equally true, even if that treatment seem odd to me or by my family members.

Herbs and natural medicine is not new to me.  From time to time in my life I have ventured out towards a more natural approach to my health wanting to avoid “man-made medicines” and try to move towards “God-made-medicines”.  At the time of those ventures I was unwilling to pay for more than a couple of visits and a few herbs (seeing a naturopath isn’t covered my insurance).  But by the time God brought Dr. Jenkins into my life I was willing.

Dr. Jenkins had me fill out some forms before coming to see her and she told me to be thorough.   Here is some of what I recorded on the Current Symptoms and Conditions form:

·         Night sweats

·         Weight gain

·         Sweat easily

·         Poor sleep (having a lot of insomnia)

·         Cravings

·         Strong thirst

·         Fatigue

·         High blood pressure

·         Swelling of hands

·         Swelling of feet

·         Yeast infections

·         LS (lichen sclerosis)

·         Indigestion

·         Abdominal pain or cramps

·         Rectal pain

·         Gas

·         Hemorrhoids

·         Blood in stool

·         Constipation (only going 3-4 times a week)

·         Regular laxative use (have used over the counter for years)

·         Muscle pain

·         Shoulder pain

·         Headaches

·         Sores on genitals (from the LS)

·         Wake to urinate

·         Depression

·         Loss of balance

·         Anxiety

Medications you are currently taking:

1.      Levothyroxine 75 mg (low thyroid)

2.      Lisinopril 20 mg (high blood pressure)

3.      Trazondone 100 mg (for restless leg syndrome)

4.      Cyclobenzaprine 10 mg (for chronic tension headaches)

5.      Cymbalta 60 mg (depression)

6.      MiraLax taken nightly (for constipation) (I wrote beside this that it wasn’t working anymore)

The form was exhaustive covering surgeries, specialist visits, etc…but that isn’t needed to prove the point I want to prove through the Trust Your Gut: posts I will be making to record this journey I have been on.

My journey started on the 2nd day of August, 2012 but I didn’t start keeping a HealthMinder Personal Wellness Journal until the 31st of August, 2012.  The first 29 days of the journey was rough.  The challenge of a new way of eating, the constant cravings of bad foods I didn’t want to consume any longer, and I was still struggling with the symptoms above.
