Toilet Paper Allergies? Really??
I was diagnosis with LS
(Lichen Sclerosis) over 12 years ago and have suffered greatly with it and only
getting some relieve from it the past couple of months after changing my diet
and taking a regiment of herbs. See my post "Trust Your Gut: Diagnosed with Candida". My OBGYN
treated the LS the way I have read on forums most OBGYN’s do with potent topical steroids, like Clobetasol propionate and estrogen cream. Which by
the way never helped and left me thinking that LS was my “thorn in the flesh” I
would have to live with for the rest of my life.
This post is not about LS, it’s about allergies to
toilet paper, but anyone who suffers from it might gain some insight here or
maybe something to consider concerning the care of LS.
Now back to my original
question which is the title to this post.
Toilet Paper Allergies? Really? I was surfing the web trying to find ways to
help with the LS. What kind of underwear
to buy (cotton by the way), what kind of body soap to use (soap without
detergents or perfumes. Organic goat
milk soap is the best I have found), what kind of laundry soap to use, (not
detergent that is why I make my own, check out my post Homemade Laundry Soap Recipe), or anything else that
might help. That is where I ran across a
hub titled “Is Your Toilet Paper Itching You? Ow!” that I found extremely
interesting and why I have shared the previous link with you.
I had been a “coupon
clipper” for a period in my life, you can find many posts on how to coupon in my
blog if you are interesting in learning, and at that time I was able to buy a
considerable amount of two leading brands of toilet paper at a very good price
(along with my coupons). Over the past
couple of weeks I have been itching, crazy itching, and even though that is
part of having LS the itching had almost stopped since I changed my diet. So I began to question
what was causing it and that is when I realize that the only change I had made
was the toilet paper. The itching started after changing over to the second brand of toilet paper. I had just
happened to wonder if I could have a toilet paper allergy when I ran across the
hub and guess what? I am not the only one who has asked that question.
After reading the hub
several times I decided to switch over to a gentler brand and in two days have
seen a difference. Who would have
thought the importance of changing a brand of toilet paper or how it could be so comforting to do so! However, try reading labels on the toilet
paper package…they don’t tell what is in their products or what process they
use. Scary! Moral of the story, some good advice from the hub: If you find yourself suddenly suffering from a chronic ailment, please
take a moment to figure out what it is you are doing over and over.
